The Voice of Devonport is a community organisation set up in July 2006 by residents of the Devonport area.
The organisation is funded by grants and fund raising, and we are striving to become a financially sustainable community resource.
'We are an independent group promoting
the interests of Devonport residents and creating new ventures, plans and community projects in Devonport.'
A group of residents of the New Deal for Communities
(NDC)area in Devonport Set up during the summer of 2006 A new, strong, collective voice To bring together residents and community groups from
across the area - Mount Wise + Granby, younger +
older people. To work with agencies (e.g. the Council, the Police, DRC
Partnership) to make Devonport a better place to live. Getting any problems heard, dealt with and wherever
possible, solved.
How it works
We try to be positive and constructive, because we
think this helps to build good relationships, and good
relationships bring better results We are open to every resident of the NDC area who
wants to work this way Everyone in the group has an equal voice We try to make the meetings friendly, interesting and
fun - there's work to do, but there's the social side too The group is more than just its meetings - if you can't or
don't want to come to meetings, you can still play a full
part in the life of this group
Achievements
Good relationships have been built between
Devonport residents who previously didn't know each
other By getting to know each other, we've recognised lots of
common interests, and common concerns and goals for
Devonport We've had a number of meetings with key people
involved in the redevelopment of Devonport explaining
their work and answering our questions The group has fought for improvements to schemes
such as the Dental School - and won. ...more
